Green Bioactives at COP28

Back in August, we were excited to hear the news from Scottish Enterprise that Green Bioactives was one of the exciting young companies selected to join the Scottish business delegation for COP28, led by the First Minister, Huzma Yousaf. Little did we know, this journey would be an immersive dive into Dubai's bustling business landscape.

Day 1: A Warm Welcome In Dubai

Leaving behind a snowy Edinburgh, we landed in Dubai to a blaze of sunshine and 30°C heat, setting the tone for a promising adventure. The day began at Heriot Watt University (HWU) for a breakfast meeting with the First Minister, held in an impressive climate meeting hub. Later, I explored the state-of-the-art HWU campus, attended insightful sessions on entering the Dubai market, and visited the DEWA Innovation Hub promoting sustainable energy.

Day 2: Exploring COP28 Green Zone

Up at the crack of dawn, I delved into the vast COP28 Green Zone. Navigating through the Financial Hub, attending climate-related sessions, and exploring the Start-up Zone, the day unfolded with encounters with potential investors and financiers. An event with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and an evening GlobalScot/Alumni Networking Reception added a rich layer of connections.

Day 3: Investment Showcase And Networking

Returning to HWU, the day kicked off with more breakfast meetings and sessions on Dubai science parks. An investment showcase provided an opportunity to pitch Green Bioactives to potential investors, and subsequent networking events opened doors to valuable contacts for potential expansion in the UAE.

Day 4: Last Hurrah In Dubai

The final day at COP28 was spent revisiting hubs and soaking in the vibrant melting pot of cultures that is Dubai. A visit to the Burj Khalifa and the Mall of the Emirates added a touch of awe to an already enriching experience. Conversations with locals revealed the friendliness and helpfulness that defined the UAE.

Day 5: Homeward Bound

As the sun rose on the fifth day, I boarded the metro to the airport, reflecting on the whirlwind of experiences gained in Dubai. With a plethora of contacts and newfound Dubai business know-how, I eagerly anticipate the next chapter at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
